On October 2nd, during the opening of Expo Doha, Massimo Lucchini, CEO of Idromeccanica Lucchini, presented the Italian pavilion created for ITA within this prestigious event. The structure is a concentration of Italian beauty, technology, innovation, and expertise, resulting from the synergistic work of Idromeccanica Lucchini’s technicians, together with researchers and architects.

600 square meters, built in extreme climatic conditions, the pavilion highlights futuristic technological achievements in vertical farming and hydroponic cultivation, welcoming guests and visitors in a climate-controlled environment while showcasing the elegance of Italian style. Here, beauty and technology go hand in hand thanks to mushroom-shaped shading structures adorned with custom-made tanks. The tanks are connected by a closed-circuit fertigation system with recycling.
Beyond the beauty of the installation, it’s primarily the technology that amazes: technology that enables cultivation in extreme environments, bringing greenery to the desert and providing healthy, fresh food anywhere. Within the pavilion, Idromeccanica Lucchini has implemented micropropagation cultivation, hydroponics, ebb and flow systems, and other cutting-edge technologies for growing healthy and genetically perfect food vertically. Genetics is indeed the other frontier of innovation. Beyond soilless cultivation techniques, genetic aspects represent the great challenges of the future. While soilless techniques allow significant savings in energy and, especially, water (up to 95% less), genetics enables bringing maximum quality and food safety to the table. Cells from a perfectly healthy and qualitatively perfect plant are reproduced on a gel bed and nourished with specific natural elements. Inside a sterile laboratory, the cells reproduce, develop roots, and give rise to genetically perfect plants, replicas of the healthy mother plant. This way, disease-resistant seedlings can be produced, robust and characterized by excellent quantitative and qualitative yield. Once developed, the plants are grown on a peat-based substrate and fertigated until they are ready for final cultivation in open fields. Idromeccanica Lucchini’s philosophy is to bring healthy products to consumers’ tables, characterized by strong social ethics. The modern techniques that the company passionately pursues are aimed at growing plants that can express their maximum natural potential. The challenge is to obtain quality products that are traceable, certified, zero-residue, organoleptically healthy and genuine, while promoting environmental sustainability.

Idromeccanica Lucchini’s experience at Expo Doha represents an important opportunity to present radical advancements in the world of cultivation. Idromeccanica Lucchini is proud to represent Italy and its ingenuity at a prestigious international event and to bring healthy, fresh, and long-lasting products to tables worldwide. Expo Doha represents the culmination of a long journey that sees Idromeccanica Lucchini’s technology, innovation, and research preferred and chosen in the global market. Finally, this experience represents a strong stimulus for the company, a starting point towards new challenges and an increasingly prominent position in the market.
